Current Projects


Note – This section has not been updated for some time and is not current. FogQuest was established as a charity in the year 2000 and in the early years was very active with field projects. Our focus now is on providing guidance and mentoring for individuals and organizations wishing to evaluate the potential of new sites or to carry out operational fog collection projects. These project overviews have been kept to provide useful background information for people wishing to work in a variety of countries.


Guatemala – Tojquia 2006 – Ongoing

FogQuest volunteers Tony Makepeace and Nicolas Zanetta recently oversaw the construction of the first two of five large fog collectors in the rural settlement of Tojquia,

Guatemala. The local people are participating in the construction. The very capable men and women in the village have now completed all five collectors. Each collector will now provide between 200 and 400 litres of fresh water daily. more…


Ethiopia – January 2010 – Ongoing
The assistance from local agencies and villages has been excellent and the fences around the SFCs will be paid for and constructed by the villages. The members of the community Association in Dabat are convinced that fog collection will work there and are motivated to help in any way.  more…


Chile – Atacama Desert Center 2007 – Ongoing
There are presently two large fog collectors (LFCs) at the Atacama Desert Center (ADC) site in northern Chile. Both were built by members FogQuest and the second one was built by FogQuest in 2008 as part an environmental-educational project. The second LFC continues to provide water for the plantation in what is the driest desert the world. The first LFC provides water for the station house where professors and students work. more...


Chile – Falda Verde 2001 – Ongoing
The fog collectors have been producing water for nine years and were examined and repaired in August of this year. This project continues to provide water for a commercial aloe vera crop for the people of Falda Verde. more…


Nepal Water from Fog Project 2001-Ongoing
The Nepal Water from Fog Project (NWFP) was started in the spring 1997 on the initiative of Kevin Kowalchuk, who had previously worked in Nepal on a film project. Eriitrea – Asmara 2005-Ongoing

Morocco – Boutmezguida (Sidi Ifni) 2006 – Ongoing
An evaluation of fog collection rates at two locations in Morocco began in 2006. The project is under the direction of Mr. Aissa Derhem of the Fondation Si Hmad Derhem, Casablanca, Morocco. Fogquest provided some initial guidance and Professor Maria Victoria Marzol, a long-time FogQuest member, has worked with Mr. Derhem on the project. more...
